Our Materials
Here are the materials that we commonly use:
-
This is a soft buttery leather with a matte finish that is highly durable. Appropriate for cooler weather.
-
A firmer durable leather that softens with wear. Its lightweight nature makes it appropriate year-round.
-
Soft, shiny leather that comes in many colors. It is lightweight and has a beautiful, glossy finish. It can be worn year round.
-
This is leather that has been mixed with spandex to allow it to cling to the body. Stretch leather is lightweight, can be worn year-round. Colors are limited due to the processing of this leather.
-
High gloss leather that has been treated to produce shine and render it water resistant.
-
The skin of a snake (mostly Python) that is shed and used to embellish garments. Snakeskins are very expensive due to their limited availability.
-
This is the skin of younger goats. It is typically luxuriously soft and expensive due to limited quantities, gloves are often made in kidskin as the skins are smaller.
-
Pigskin is lightweight and comes in many colors and patterns. We reserve it for embellishment rather than for entire garments as it is subject to tearing.
-
The most ubiquitous leather used in garment and accessory making. It is highly durable and quite variable. We use less cowhide as it tends to have a rigid feel.
-
Shearling is the skin of a sheep or lamb that has the wool left on, giving it extreme warmth. It is lightweight and cozy, and used for cold weather garments.
-
Suede is the underside of the skin, and has a nappy soft texture. It is lightweight and can be worn year round.
-
This is used to make rainwear as the wax allows water to bead and not penetrate the fabric.
-
We work mainly with vintage denim (primarily Levi's). We source the denim mostly from second hand shops.
